More About Reaching an Unreached People Group
Through prayer and guidance, we have chosen to partner with LifeWay Global to adopt the Toposa tribe of northern Kenya, with the goal of igniting a Disciple-Making Movement (DMM) among them.
A DMM is a faith-driven movement where followers of Jesus make disciples who, in turn, make more disciples. Rather than relying solely on churches or pastors, everyday believers are empowered to share their faith, teach others, and help them grow spiritually—creating a ripple effect of transformation.
Together, we seek to bring the love of Christ to the
Toposa people, equipping them to multiply disciples and build a thriving, self-sustaining community of faith.
Our commitment of $500/month for at least 2 years...
will help send a team of
5 commissioned missionaries
from a nearby
Disciple-Making Movement (DMM)
to engage the
Toposa people. Their mission is to
identify persons of peace—those open to conversations about God—and quickly invite them to
discover how God speaks through the Bible. These individuals, along with their family and friends, will participate in
Discovery Bible Studies, where they explore faith together.
As group members become disciples of Jesus, they will gather into simple churches that connect with others in the movement. These churches will then multiply, creating generations of disciples and faith communities.
Since this is a remote hardship area, the team will seek ways to generate income locally. However, our funding provides crucial support:
With this investment, we are equipping a team to
bring lasting transformation to the Toposa people, building a movement that will impact generations to come.
More About the Toposa of Northern Kenya
The Toposa tribe is an ethnic group of 360,000 to 800,000 people (estimates vary by source) spread across Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, and Uganda. While most Toposa live in South Sudan, LifeSpring is focused on the 3,200 Toposa residing in northern Kenya.
According to the Joshua Project, the Kenyan Toposa are classified as an "orange" people group, with 5.34% identifying as Christian and only 1.31% as Evangelical. The Joshua Project defines unreached people groups as those with less than 2% Evangelicals and less than 5% professing Christians. While the Kenyan Toposa technically exceed this threshold by 0.34%, their exposure to the Gospel remains extremely limited.
The Toposa people are traditionally resistant to the Gospel, relying instead on spirit doctors for guidance. According to the Joshua Project, only portions of the Bible have been translated into Toposa, and their oral culture—rooted in songs, dances, music, poems, and folklore—makes traditional evangelism challenging. Literacy rates are low, but a small Catholic school in South Sudan has had some success educating Toposa children and sharing the Gospel. Unfortunately, children in northern Kenya do not have access to this school.
We envision a day when a Turkana child in Nanam and a Toposa child from a nearby area will not kill each other in cattle raids or be forced into an early marriage, a form of sex slavery, but instead they will learn and play together at school. The grace and truth of Jesus can end the cycle of violence and oppression, and we can help make that a reality.
